Tullow Oil's Participation in Kenya Project to Rise to 100% on Partners' Withdrawal
Tullow Oil said Tuesday that its working interest in two blocks in Kenya will increase to 100% from 50% after two minority partners confirmed their intention to withdraw for "differing internal strategic reasons."
The London-listed oil-and-gas company said that owning 100% of the South Lokichar basin project has created more optionality and flexibility in the process to secure strategic partners. Furthermore, it has created a simpler joint-venture partnership and streamlined project delivery, it said.
"The prospective strategic partners have been informed. They remain engaged and detailed farm-out discussions continue with a number of companies. Whilst the process has taken longer than expected, Tullow remains focused on securing a strategic partnership this year," the company said.
Following the minority partners' withdrawal, Tullow's net project 2C contingent resources are expected to rise to 461 million barrels of oil equivalent from 231 million barrels of oil equivalent, taking its total contingent resources to 836 million barrels of oil equivalent from 605 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Net capital expenditure guidance for 2023 in Kenya will increase to around $15 million from around $10 million, it said, adding that this was less than 5% of group capex.
