Australia’s Origin considers shipping green ammonia
Origin Energy has signed an MoU with Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines to develop the supply chain for export of green ammonia, the Australian company said on Wednesday.
The companies are working together to supply downstream markets with low-carbon fuel by 2026.
Origin is conducting a USD 2.4-million feasibility study on building a green ammonia plant in Tasmania, with the product destined for exports.
The company currently ships LNG to Asian markets.
“With our abundance of renewable resources and proximity to Asian markets, Australia is in the box seat to develop a world-leading hydrogen sector, exporting low-emissions energy all over the world to meet demand for clean energy from our major trading partners,” said Tracey Boyes, general manager for fuels at Origin Energy.
